Short sellers are on the move heading into May. Data as of April 30 shows sharp swings in positioning across several names.
Avis Budget Group CAR leads the dramatic unwinds. Its SI % of FF collapsed from 100.4% to 64.8% in just one week — a 35.6 percentage point drop. That is a significant short covering event. Flutter Entertainment also saw short sellers exit en masse. Its SI fell 24.7% in a week to just 4.2% of float.
Pinterest saw shorts cut positions sharply too. SI dropped from 20.6% to 14.8% of FF in seven days.
On the other side, bears are piling into new names. Figma saw the biggest build-up. SI jumped 6.2 percentage points to 24.9% of FF. Vail Resorts followed, with SI rising from 16.2% to 22.3%. Wolfspeed remains a heavily shorted name. At 50.1% SI % of FF, it also added 4.2 points this week.
Rumble tops the high short-score list among mid-caps. With a score of 93 and just 0.06% availability, borrowing shares is nearly impossible. SoundHound AI sits at 38% SI % of FF with 20% cost to borrow — a squeeze candidate worth watching.
