Short sellers have been busy this past week. Data from ORTEX as of July 7 shows notable moves in both well-known names and smaller caps.
CHWY saw its SI % FF jump to 75.4%, up 5.6 percentage points in just seven days. That's one of the biggest increases among liquid names. Bears clearly remain unconvinced by Chewy's recent recovery narrative.
CRWV (CoreWeave) also attracted fresh shorts. SI hit 32.7%, up nearly 4 points on the week. The AI infrastructure darling has been in the spotlight — but short sellers are fading the hype. Despite Trump's attention on AI stocks triggering news around DELL and SMCI, CoreWeave bears are pressing harder.
CHRN saw the largest 7-day jump — nearly 10 points to 42% SI. Its cost to borrow hit 19.6% APR, a sign of rising demand for short positions.
On the squeeze side, LCID saw shorts retreat 1.9 points. (Avis Budget) dropped 3.2 points to 36.2%, the biggest short cover of the week.
WOLF (Wolfspeed) remains the extreme case — 116.7% SI % FF, up slightly. Cost to borrow sits at just 8.4% APR. Bears show no sign of leaving.
