Earnings, Chips, and a Disney Shake-Up

Earnings Day Arrives

Tuesday delivers a heavy S&P 500 reporting slate. Walt Disney drops results pre-market alongside a headline-grabbing move — the company has sold its A+E Networks stake to Hearst. The deal signals Disney is pruning assets and focusing on core businesses. CVS Health holds its call at 8am ET. eBay, MetLife, and Kraft Heinz all report today. Wednesday adds another wave: ConocoPhillips, Occidental Petroleum, Fiserv, and insurers AIG and Aflac.

Chips Split the Market

Semiconductors are in focus. Infineon Technologies beat Q3 estimates this morning — EPS of €0.51 versus €0.48 expected. Sales hit €4.85B against a €4.69B consensus. That's a clean beat from Europe's biggest chipmaker. In the US, options flow on Micron Technology and Advanced Micro Devices is running both ways ahead of results. Sandisk Corporation — up 443% in 2026 — is drawing heavy put volume. Bears smell a top.

Short Sellers Reshuffle

Biotech is taking new short pressure. Solid Biosciences saw short interest jump nearly 8 percentage points in a week to 39.6% of free float. Across the Atlantic, European names saw the opposite. Solvay and Ocado shed significant short positions — 19.6 and 18.2 percentage points respectively.

Corporate Action

Carlos Slim Hélu filed sales of nearly 1.9 million PBF Energy shares worth $108.6M in July. Standard Chartered CEO Bill Winters sold $8.96M of stock on August 4. Analyst moves were modest — Henry Schein received a $6 target lift while WEC Energy and AMETEK both drew downgrades.
