Short sellers made notable moves this week. The data through August 25 shows sharp divergences — new bets building fast while others unwind quickly.
SPB (Spectrum Brands) saw its short interest jump 9.1 percentage points in seven days. It now sits at 22.3% of free float. Bears appear skeptical of the consumer goods firm's recovery story.
KVYO (Klaviyo) climbed from 13.5% to 20.1% — a 6.6pp rise. The marketing software firm faces pressure as AI tools eat into SaaS demand, and Jim Cramer's "SaaSpocalypse" debate is fueling sentiment.
SPCX (SpaceX) short interest rose to 25.0% from 18.5%. The stock drew headlines after NASA's Jared Isaacman pushed for space-based data centers, but bears aren't buying the hype.
CHWY (Chewy) saw its SI drop sharply — down 12.3pp to 48.5%. Shorts are retreating. Availability remains extremely high at 607%.
WOLF (Wolfspeed) fell from 83.7% to 72.8%. Still heavily shorted, but covering is underway. Zero availability signals remaining shorts are trapped.
FLWS (1-800-Flowers) holds 75.4% SI with 29 days to cover. Any positive catalyst could trigger a violent squeeze.
