Semiconductor names and beaten-down growth stocks are driving the heaviest options flow this week. Chip bulls and short-squeeze hunters are the standout stories.
Micron Technology tops both the bullish and bearish options bets rankings. The stock is up 229% year-to-date. Analysts still see 62% further upside. That combination is drawing two-sided flow. Traders are not sure whether to chase or fade the rally.
CrowdStrike just posted its best single day ever. Eleven analysts raised price targets. The stock carries a modest short score of 34 and a DTC of under one day. That means covering pressure on a big up day can amplify call flows sharply. Traders who missed the move are now chasing via near-term calls.
e.l.f. Beauty is a pure squeeze play. ORTEX data shows short interest plunged 49% in one week to just 6.8% of float. The stock rallied 38% in a month. RSI sits at 74.8, already overbought. Options activity here is likely dominated by momentum calls and late short-cover hedges.
Moderna stands out for the opposite reason. Up 407% year-to-date, it carries a short score of 60 and a 5.1-day DTC — the highest of any name with heavy options flow this week. Analysts have a negative 30% return potential. That combination points to elevated put buying as traders bet the rally runs out of steam.
The broader macro backdrop adds fuel. Iran conflict headlines are lifting energy names. Advanced Micro Devices is up 125% year-to-date with call-dominated flow. The options market is pricing in continued volatility across the chip space.
