Short sellers are making big moves this week. Data as of August 27 shows sharp shifts in both directions across US markets.
CAPR tops the week's biggest short interest builds. Capricor Therapeutics saw its SI % of free float jump to 45.6%, up from 36.4% just seven days ago — a 9.2 percentage point surge. Bears are clearly positioning against the small biotech.
KVYO is another notable new target. Klaviyo's short interest hit nearly 20% of free float, rising almost 7 points in one week. The email marketing software firm faces growing skepticism from short sellers despite a $2.3bn market cap.
SPCX — SpaceX's listed vehicle — also attracted fresh shorts this week. SI climbed to 23.9% of free float, up nearly 6 points. A news piece today flagged a broader rocket market shortage, adding attention to the space sector.
On the flip side, CHWY bears are retreating fast. Chewy's SI dropped from 59.1% to 47.6% in a week — an 11-point unwind. With over 599% availability vs. short interest, covering pressure is easing. This is one of the sharpest short squeezes unfolding right now.
WOLF also saw bears cover. Wolfspeed's SI fell from 80.7% to 73.7%. Still among the most shorted stocks in the US, but the trend is shifting.
DIA — the Dow Jones ETF — grabbed attention today. ORTEX flagged a 34% single-week surge in short interest to 4.2 million shares. Macro bears appear to be betting against blue chips directly.
