Analysts trimmed price targets across several names on Thursday. The moves were mostly modest, but two stand out for different reasons.
Constellation Brands drew the most attention. Two separate consensus updates hit within hours. The average target fell to $154.83. A new recommendation was added between the two updates, briefly nudging the consensus. The stock carries short interest of 5.5% of free float, not heavy, but worth watching given the back-to-back cuts.
First Solar also saw its target trimmed, to $274.47. The solar manufacturer already has 11.1% of its free float sold short, the highest of any name on today's list. Analysts remain broadly bullish, with 26 buy ratings, but a lower target from even one broker adds pressure on a stock that short sellers are already watching.
The one clear upgrade came at Freeport-McMoRan. The copper miner's consensus target rose to $77.14. Japan machine tool orders jumped 65% year-on-year in August, according to ORTEX alt data, a signal of rising industrial capital expenditure globally. That backdrop supports copper demand and may be behind the more constructive analyst tone on FCX.
Workday and Booking Holdings also had targets cut slightly, with no change to ratings.
