Options flow this week splits cleanly: chip stocks are attracting the biggest bearish bets, while financials and select large-caps are seeing near-pure bullish positioning ahead of a packed earnings calendar.
NVDA, AMD, and Micron sit at the top of the negative options bets table over the past seven days. Micron leads the count by value, drawing the most negative flow of any US large-cap. Tesla also features, with the stock down 15% year-to-date and options traders piling into downside protection.
MiniMed Group stands out beyond the chip names. Its ORTEX short score sits at 91.7, among the highest in the market, and its options score over the past week is the lowest of any mid-cap name screened. Bearish order flow dominates with little bullish offset, a sign traders see further downside in the Medtronic spinoff.
On the other side, more than a dozen names including ADP, Equinix, CSX, and American Tower show 100% positive options flow over seven days. Bank earnings are the likely catalyst. Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and UnitedHealth all have confirmed earnings calls this week, drawing call-heavy positioning.
European EV data adds context for auto-adjacent names. German battery-electric car registrations hit 88,335 in September, up 95% year on year, the biggest September since 2021, according to ORTEX Alt Data. Finnish BEV registrations also reached an all-time high. That backdrop may temper some of the put pressure on EV-linked equities if the trend holds into Q4 demand data.
KKR shows the weakest options score among large-cap financials despite a 28% year-to-date drop, suggesting some traders remain sceptical of a recovery even at these levels.
