Morgan Stanley ran a broad sweep of target price cuts on Wednesday, trimming valuations across waste management, data analytics, and business services names in what looks like a sector-wide reassessment.
The sharpest cut landed on VRSK. Morgan Stanley analyst Toni Kaplan took the target down to $215 from $235, an $20 drop while keeping a Hold rating. MSCI also felt Kaplan's pen, with a target cut to $662 from $700, though the analyst kept a Buy. WM and RSG both saw targets trimmed, with Waste Management cut from $230 to $220 and Republic Services from $232 to $219.
Not every call went south. Morgan Stanley's Tejas Savant moved the other way on TMO, lifting the Thermo Fisher Scientific target sharply to $730 from $650, keeping a Buy. The $80 jump stands out as one of the biggest upward target moves of the day.
DPZ faces a rough setup after a consensus target price reduction. Domino's carries 8.6% short interest as a percentage of free float, suggesting some market participants are already positioned for pressure.
JCI bucked the trend among industrials, with analysts nudging the Johnson Controls target up to $167.75 from $167.55. The move was marginal but ran against a wider pattern of downward revisions hitting peers including DOV, FTV, CARR, and XYL.
