Tradeweb Markets has added another 2.3% on the week to $109.98, and the analyst community has responded with a fresh round of target increases that close much of the gap left by last summer's cuts.
The Street's direction of travel is now clearly upward. Wells Fargo's Daniel Welden, who initiated with an Overweight on October 2 at $118, raised that target to $125 this week. Morgan Stanley moved its Equal-Weight target to $125 from $123 on October 9. Barclays lifted to $116 from $113 last week. Even TD Cowen, which holds a Hold rating, nudged its target to $107 from $98, now sitting just below the current price. The consensus target is $125.60 against a price of $109.98, implying around 14% upside. That gap has narrowed since the previous note cited $123.53 against $107.54, as the stock has moved faster than targets have risen. The analyst rec differentiation factor score ranks in the 90th percentile of the universe, reflecting genuine conviction skew toward the bulls even if several firms remain at neutral ratings. The bear case remains centred on regulatory exposure under CFTC and MiFID II frameworks, and the risk that electronic trading volumes soften. The bull case rests on the fixed-income franchise and a revenue run-rate that was growing at double digits as recently as Q4 2025.
Positioning in the lending market adds little drama to the pre-earnings setup. Short interest is modest at 2.9% of the free float, and has been drifting lower over the past month, down nearly 10% over 30 days. Borrow availability is effectively unconstrained, with over 113 million shares available against roughly 3.4 million on loan. Cost to borrow is just 0.32%, well below the 1.5% spike seen briefly on September 28. The options market is slightly more cautious than the lending picture: the put/call ratio is 0.38, above its 20-day average of 0.28, though the z-score of 0.84 is far from extreme. This is a mild defensive lean rather than a market bracing for a sharp move.
The ownership picture has one structural feature worth noting. Refinitiv Parent Limited, now part of the London Stock Exchange Group, filed a Schedule 13D/A disclosing a 50.8% stake as of March 2025. That filing carries the activist label under SEC classification, though in practice this reflects LSEG's controlling position as the dominant strategic shareholder, not a traditional activist campaign. LSEG's institutional holding arm separately reports 45.9% of shares. T. Rowe Price stands as the next largest external holder at 9.3%, having added 1.3 million shares in the most recent reported quarter. As always with 13D/G filings, positions are as-last-disclosed around the 5% threshold and holders can exit below that level without further notice.
The previous note flagged the July 30 earnings reaction: a 7.1% single-day decline followed by a further drift to minus 4.5% over five days. With the next print due October 29, that reaction is the clearest recent reference point. The stock has recovered substantially since then, up roughly 8% over the past month, and the analyst community has repriced accordingly. How much of the bullish repricing is already in the stock at $109.98, versus the $125.60 consensus target, is the central question heading into the release.
With fifteen days to the print, the gap between the current price and the Street's revised targets, and whether any further analyst moves close or widen it, is the setup to track.
