A broad sweep of energy upgrades dominated analyst activity on Thursday. Target prices rose across six oil and gas majors in a single session. EOG Resources, Diamondback Energy, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Devon Energy, and APA Corporation all received higher consensus targets. The moves came on the same day that September CPI data showed the headline index at its highest reading since the series began in 1997. Core CPI, however, fell to 2.6% annually, its smallest September reading in five years. That softer core reading gives the Fed more flexibility. It also eases one of the biggest headwinds for energy demand.
Invesco was the sharpest mover in the other direction. Analysts trimmed the asset manager's average target to $34.64 from $34.86. The stock remains in hold territory across all 15 covering analysts.
Danaher saw its consensus target lifted to $244.14. Illumina also picked up an upward target revision, with the average moving to $241.05. Both names sit in the life sciences space, which has been watching rate trajectory closely.
Expand Energy was the lone energy name to see its target trimmed, falling slightly to $123.04. That bucked the broader trend across the sector.
Progressive Corporation and Workday each received new analyst recommendations. Progressive now carries a consensus target of $232.90, while Workday's target sits at $207.73 with 19 hold ratings among 22 covering analysts.
