Analysts this week delivered a sweep of target price cuts across two sectors: regulated utilities and aerospace and defence. The pattern suggests growing caution about near-term earnings in both industries.
Six major US utilities saw consensus targets trimmed. WEC fell to $119.44, ED to $108.66, SRE to $97.81, PEG to $83.36, FE to $51.25 and AEP to $141.45. The cuts were modest in dollar terms but broad in scope. That breadth signals a sector-wide reset rather than a company-specific issue.
Defence names took similar treatment. LMT saw its average target fall to $618.86 from $621.24. TDG slipped to $1,419.30, and LHX moved down to $316.65. HWM, the aerospace components maker, dropped to $324.55.
The defence cuts are worth watching ahead of earnings season. ORTEX alternative data shows German car registrations running 133% above the same quarter last year for GM, which reports on 20 October. TSLA reports on 21 October with the same dataset running 269% above year-ago levels.
Against the downward trend, BE and FAST bucked the cuts. Bloom Energy's consensus target edged up to $28.46. Fastenal's target rose to $50.22, following what appears to be a positive read on industrial demand.
BAC saw multiple changes, with its consensus target moving from $65.23 to $64.23, a mild retreat ahead of its own earnings print.
