Pre-earnings options positioning is heating up as two major auto names loom on the calendar. TSLA reports on 21 October and GM on 20 October. German car registration data tracked by ORTEX Alt Data offers a rare real-economy read ahead of both prints. German registrations are running 269% above the same quarter last year for Tesla and 133% above for GM, with all three months of the quarter now in.
That is an unusually strong signal into a week where option sellers will be pricing sharp moves.
On the bearish side of options markets, JBLU carries one of the lowest 7-day options scores among liquid US names. Its RSI sits at just 18.1, placing it in deeply oversold territory. The stock is down 34% year to date. LCID shows a similarly low options score, with 10.5 days to cover and a short score of 79.
Away from equities, ASTS is drawing attention for a different reason. ORTEX Index Rebalance Radar puts its MSCI World deletion probability at 95%, up from 8% overnight. That implies $674M of forced selling across 1.2 days of volume. With the rank date on 19 October, time is short. A deletion at that scale tends to drive put demand as passive funds unwind.
NEE adds another layer. NRC reactor status data shows a NextEra reactor running 10 standard deviations below its own history on 14 October. That reading alone is unlikely to move the options market, but it is the kind of operational outlier traders watch ahead of utility earnings.
The broader setup favours selective hedging into next week rather than directional bets.
