The UK's manufacturing output index reached 102.3 in August, its highest reading since records began in 1948, according to the ONS Manufacturing Output Index. It beat the previous August record of 101.1 set in 2024. The contrast with the continent is stark. Eurostat's Industrial Production Index for the Euro area stood at 97.5 in August, the lowest August reading in five years. Euro area industrial output has now fallen for three consecutive months, the longest losing streak in the current data run. Two major economies, moving sharply in opposite directions, present a split backdrop for any company exposed to both.
US travel demand held firm through the summer. The US Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported 77.8 million domestic passengers enplaned in July, rising for a third consecutive month. International enplanements reached 11.5 million, also up for a third straight month. The strength in both measures points to sustained consumer appetite for flying. Separately, Colorado's Atlas EV Hub registry showed battery-electric vehicle registrations in the state up 16% in July versus the same month last year. Latvia's nearly-new car register, published by the Latvian Road Traffic Safety Directorate, recorded 72 units in September, up 200% on the 24 registered in September 2025 and the highest September total since 2000. Meanwhile, NRC status data showed a reactor running 10.0 standard deviations below its own output history on 14 October, a notable departure from the company's established operating range.
Several automakers report within the next seven days, and ORTEX's measured leading indicators from national vehicle registers offer context. German car registrations, which have a measured lead on GM revenue of 15 days with a strong fit, are running 133% above the same quarter last year with all three months of the quarter in. The same German car dataset leads TSLA revenue by 43 days, also a strong fit, and is running 269% above the year-ago quarter. Austrian and Dutch car registrations, measured leads on RNO revenue, are running +6% and -40% respectively versus the prior year. Finnish car registrations and India vehicle data, both measured leads on Volvo Car (VOLCAR B) revenue, point to -9% and +9% against last year. India registrations, a measured weak-fit lead on Maruti Suzuki (MARUTI) revenue, are running 31% above the prior-year quarter. For Tata Motors (500570), Japanese car data, a strong-fit lead, is running 16% ahead, while Dutch registrations are down 56%. These are where the respective datasets point with three months of the quarter in.
