UK battery-electric car registrations totalled 147,185 in Q2 2026. That is the largest second quarter on record since the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders series began in 2015, up 40% on the 104,770 registered in Q2 2025. The momentum is not confined to Britain. Canadian new vehicle sales reached 174,611 in August 2026, the largest August reading in six years, edging past the previous best of 172,647 set in August 2020. Together, the two datasets point to consumer demand holding up across two of the world's major auto markets at a time when macro pressures are uneven.
EU-wide HICP inflation, published by Eurostat, hit 3.8% in September 2026. That is the highest September reading in two years, up sharply from 2.6% a year earlier. Sweden sits at the opposite end of the spectrum. Its HICP rate fell to 1.0% in September 2026, the lowest September reading in five years and below the 1.2% recorded in September 2024. The divergence matters for European companies with broad continental exposure, where the pricing environment differs markedly by geography.
New Zealand adds another record to the data set. Retail electricity connections hit their largest September reading since the series began in 2011, according to the country's electricity register. That streak signals ongoing electrification of household demand.
Four automotive companies report within the next seven days, and ORTEX's German car registration data has a measured lead on revenue for two of them.
For GM, reporting 20 October, German car registrations lead revenue by 15 days with a strong fit. The series is running 133% above the same quarter last year, with all three months of the quarter now in.
For TSLA, reporting 21 October, the same German registrations dataset leads revenue by 43 days with a strong fit. The series is running 269% above the comparable quarter, again with three of three months in.
RNO (Renault), reporting 22 October, has Austrian registrations leading revenue by 32 days at a moderate fit, running 6% above the prior-year quarter. Dutch car registrations, also a measured lead for Renault, are running 19% below the same period.
For VOLCAR B (Volvo Car), reporting 23 October, Finnish registrations lead revenue by 22 days at a moderate fit and are running 9% below last year. India registrations, a separate measured lead, are running 9% above.
These are where the data points with the full quarter in. They are not forecasts of the print or the share price.
