The options market this week is shaped by two forces: a chip sector rout and a crowded earnings calendar that spans autos, streaming, and semiconductors.
The SOXS bear semiconductor ETF surged 43% in a week. That kind of move signals a genuine put-driven conviction in semiconductor names. Lam Research is up 79% year to date and reports Q4 results shortly. Call-heavy positioning built up at elevated prices faces real risk heading into a week where the sector mood has turned.
Tesla reports Q3 results on 21 October. German car registration data, a dataset that ORTEX Alt Data measures as a leading indicator of Tesla revenue with a 43-day lag, is running 269% above the same quarter last year. That is a sharply bullish backdrop. Tesla is down 21% year to date. Options players are stacking short-dated expiries around Tuesday's print.
General Motors reports Monday. The same German car dataset leads GM revenue by 15 days and is running 133% above year-ago levels across all three months in the quarter.
Netflix is down 25% year to date with a $302 billion market cap. It reports Q3 results this week. RSI sits at 45, roughly neutral, with analyst upside of 30%.
Away from earnings, Fabrinet is the sharpest rebalance risk. Its MSCI World deletion probability jumped from 8% to 49% overnight. A deletion would force an estimated $550 million of index selling, equal to 1.6 days of normal volume. The MSCI rank date is 19 October, two sessions away.
Blackstone and KKR sit at the bottom of the ORTEX options score rankings among large caps. Both are down 30% or more this year, with RSIs below 32. The options market is not optimistic about a near-term reversal in either name.
