Short sellers made bold moves last week. Two names stand out as the biggest movers in US markets.
CHWY saw its short interest surge 25 percentage points in seven days. It now sits at 91% of free float. Availability is high at 435%, meaning shorts can still add, but the stock is a coil spring if buyers return.
SKYD is not far behind. Skydance's SI % of FF jumped from 50% to 65% in the same window. Availability has collapsed to just 19%, making new short positions increasingly expensive to initiate.
On the other side, MMED saw a dramatic short cover. MiniMed Group's SI % FF fell from 103% to 30% in a week, one of the sharpest squeezes on record over a seven-day period.
WOLF remains heavily shorted at 84% of free float. Zero shares are available to borrow. With days-to-cover above 10, any positive catalyst could force a disorderly cover.
TSLA reports earnings on 21 October. Short interest is low at just 2.5% of free float. ORTEX alt data shows German car registrations running 269% ahead of the same quarter last year, a dataset that leads Tesla revenue by 43 days with a strong fit. Bears are not pressing their luck ahead of the print.
GM reports Monday. The same German car dataset, which leads GM revenue by 15 days, is running 133% above year-ago levels. Short positioning in GM appears contained.
Sunshine Silver SSMR cut its short load by 18 percentage points over the week. Wikipedia views for the company ran 10 standard deviations above its own history in late September, per ORTEX alt data, suggesting retail attention may have forced covers.
