Malaysian new car registrations hit 74,122 in September, according to the Malaysian vehicle registration authority. That is the largest September on record since 2017. It beats the previous best of 68,970 set in September 2023. Battery-electric vehicles led the charge. Malaysian BEV registrations rose 69% year on year to 5,945 units, up from 3,523 in September 2025.
The picture in Europe was similarly strong. European battery-electric registrations rose 40% year on year in September to 32,458 vehicles, per national registration totals compiled by ORTEX. That compares with 23,175 a year earlier. Together, the two regions point to accelerating EV adoption across very different markets.
Away from auto markets, Canadian bank regulatory filings told their own story. In New Zealand, the electricity regulator's connection data showed retail electricity connections reaching 2,374,784 in September, the highest reading since the series began in 2011.
Several automakers report this week, and vehicle registration data measured by ORTEX to lead their revenues in out-of-sample backtests is already pointing in different directions. German registrations also lead TSLA revenue by 43 days, strong fit, and are running 269% above the year-earlier quarter, with three of three months in. Both companies report this week.

Dutch registrations, another moderate-fit lead, are running 19% below the year-earlier quarter. VOLCAR B reports on 23 October. Austrian registrations, a moderate-fit lead with a 45-day measured lag, are running 9% above last year, with three months in. These readings show where the registration data points so far. They are not forecasts of the reported figures.
