Options positioning in BHB has shifted sharply ahead of Bar Harbor Bankshares' earnings on 21 October. The put-call ratio has dropped to 1.15, sitting 2.4 standard deviations below its 20-day mean of 1.35. That is the most bullish options read in roughly a month and arrives as the lending market simultaneously loosens.

Short sellers step back

Short interest has fallen 19.6% in a week to 2.8% of free float, its lowest level in a month. The decline continues a broader retreat: SI is down 23.9% over the past month. At these levels the short base is modest, and the lending market reflects that. Cost to borrow has collapsed 55% over the same week to just 0.24%, the cheapest borrow has been since late September. Availability remains extremely wide, with no material tightening in the pool.

FDIC data adds a data point

FDIC call report data for Q2 2026, published by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, shows Bar Harbor's net income for the quarter ran 125% above the same period a year earlier. The bank's quarterly net income has risen for four consecutive quarters. The FDIC dataset has not yet been tested as a leading indicator for the company's reported figures, so it is colour, not a forecast. The next earnings print is due Tuesday 21 October.

Piper Sandler raised its target to $44 following the last quarterly result in July, maintaining an Overweight rating. Keefe, Bruyette & Woods lifted its target to $38 at the same time. The stock closed at $38.21 on Friday, below the Piper Sandler target but in line with the KBW mark. BlackRock added 224,639 shares as of its last 13G/A disclosure.
